Direct and Underspecified Interpretations of LFG f-structures

چکیده
We describe an approach to interpreting LFG f-structures (Kaplan & Bresnan, 1982) truth-conditionally as underspeci-fled quasi-logical forms. F-structures are either interpreted indirectly in terms of a homomorphic embedding into Quasi al., 1994a) representations or directly in terms of adapting QLF interpretation clauses to f-structure representations. We provide a reverse mapping from QLFs to f-structures and establish isomorphic subsets of the QLF and LFG formalism. A simple maI)ping which switches off QLF contextual resolution can be shown to be truth preserving with respect to an independently given semantics (Dalrymple et al., 1995). We compare our proposal with approaches discussed in the literature.

On Interpreting F-Structures as UDRSs
We describe a method for interpreting abstract fiat syntactic representations, LFG f-structures, as underspecified semantic representations , here Underspecified Discourse Representation Structures (UDRSs). The method establishes a one-to-one correspondence between subsets of the LFG and UDRS formalisms. It provides a model theoretic interpretation and an inferen-tial component which operates d...
متن کاملA Deductive Account of Quantification in LFG
The relationship between Lexical-Functional Grammar (LFG) functional structures (f-structures) for sentences and their semantic interpretations can be expressed directly in a fragment of linear logic in a way that explains correctly the constrained interactions between quantifier scope ambiguity and bound anaphora. The use of a deductive framework to account for the compositional properties of ...

متن کاملFrom Surface Dependencies towards Deeper Semantic Representations
In the past, a divide could be seen between ’deep’ parsers on the one hand, which construct a semantic representation out of their input, but usually have significant coverage problems, and more robust parsers on the other hand, which are usually based on a (statistical) model derived from a treebank and have larger coverage, but leave the problem of semantic interpretation to the user. More re...
